Can You Reuse a Deleted Reddit Username?

Reddit says a deleted account’s username cannot be reused. An old profile that no longer loads does not mean its name has returned to the available pool.

What deletion changes

Reddit’s account-deletion help says account deletion cannot be undone and the username cannot be reused. Posts and comments have separate deletion controls. Review content you want to remove before deleting an account rather than assuming deletion removes every contribution.

Choosing a name for a new account

Use a Reddit name check to explore ideas, then confirm availability in Reddit’s signup flow. If your preferred name is taken, choose a clear variation you can use consistently. A trademark concern involving a live account should go through Reddit’s current reporting process; a report does not promise a username transfer.

Labels such as [deleted] or [removed] on content are not an availability signal. Check the account-creation flow for the exact spelling you want.

Before deleting your own account, read Reddit’s current help and save anything you need. The same username cannot be registered again afterward.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Can I register the name after the account is deleted? No. Reddit says a deleted account’s username cannot be reused. Check the exact spelling in the signup flow and choose a variation if it is unavailable.

Does a deleted account remove its posts and comments? Reddit treats account deletion and post/comment deletion separately. Review and remove content you want to remove before deleting the account.

Can a trademark complaint free the username? A trademark report may address active infringement, but it does not promise transfer of a username—especially when the account has already been deleted.
